Some cribs for bedside use a side panel which can be removed to let you easily access your baby without having to get out of the bed. This is a great choice for mothers who are breastfeeding or parents who want to be close to their baby all night long but don't want to be at risk of co-sleeping (which is associated with an increased risk of SIDS).
The majority of models have built-in rocking functions. This can be extremely comforting for your baby and aids in falling asleep. Some cribs have a reclining position that can be useful for babies suffering from reflux or colic. This position should only be used with supervision and you should consult your doctor or health professional before attempting it.
Most cribs with a bedside have a canopy over them to shield your child from light or noise, which is helpful in keeping them calm. Some cribs come with an area for storage underneath that is perfect for storing extra blankets, diapers and other clothes for your child.

Easy to clean
If you're looking at travel cots or bedside cribs, look for ones that come with a mattress cover that can be machine-washed. That will help you keep it clean from spills, nappies, infant sick and dribbles. It is also recommended to choose one that is easily disassembled so you can clean and disinfect every nook and cranny.
This is important, as it's the best way to be sure that all dirt and germs have been removed. Also, you should ensure that the sides of the crib are securely secured, ensuring that there are no gaps or areas that your child could slip down or become trapped.
You'll also want to ensure that the crib is easy to clean and that it is a good fit for your bed. This is particularly important if you're using a co-sleeping bedside crib. These cribs are designed to be tethered securely to the parent's side, which gives parents to easily access to their baby at night to feed and comfort them, while ensuring the security that separate sleeping surfaces offer.
Another aspect to consider when selecting a crib for your bed is whether it has any additional features you might find useful. Some cribs can tilt or rock, which is great for babies who are fussy.
You'll want to make sure that your crib or travel bed has a flat, firm mattress that is snugly fitted into the frame. This will reduce the chance of SIDS because your baby's head and feet won't get caught in gaps or folds in the bedding.
It's a good idea purchase a brand new mattress for your crib or travel cot rather than using one that was passed down or bought second-hand. Mattresses that have been used tend to lose their shape over time and can increase the risk of SIDS. All cribs that are new should be compliant with BS EN 1130:2019, the latest standard that imposes stricter requirements for secure and efficient sleep solutions.
